<description>We're looking for someone who can wrap their arms around a lot of data, generated by a variety of different sources and consolidate all of this into a single authoritative data warehouse. We also need help in transmitting data between live systems, such as accounting and the warehouse. You have used a bunch of ETL tools in the past, and know a variety of techniques for inter-system communication. So, that's you - who are we? ideeli is an exciting, venture-funded community/commerce company implemented entirely in Ruby on Rails. We used to call ourselves a startup, but are now edging out of that category; we've been around for a few years and have real users and real revenues. Nevertheless, we still believe in small teams, agile development, quick turnaround, and getting things done.

Please reply with details of your experience, along with your availability and rate.

Required Skills

- experience with MySQL
- experience with Linux based environments
- Ability to work with a small, geographically-distributed team using collaboration tools (Skype, IM, email, mingle)
- Must be detail-oriented and thorough in designing, coding and testing
- ability to deliver against time deadlines
- workday overlap with Eastern time zone (UTC-5) and/or GMT

Desired Skills/Attributes

<description>We're looking for someone who bridges the gap between "dev" and "ops". You understand how to write elegant code (and your preference is ruby), but also how to pull off that perl/awk one-liner to just get that data scrape done. You've built ubuntu boxes and worked on a number of rails applications. You know about automated node deployments and have configured them using a tool like puppet or chef. You think the the really cool thing about cloud computing is being able to resize resources on demand and find the idea that the rails app knows when it's going to generate demand - and therefore automatically provision capacity in advance is super cool. Of course, you want to be involved with infrastructure being used by hundreds of thousands of users and want to work hard in a fast paced environment with very smart people.

So, that's you - who are we? ideeli is an exciting, venture-funded community/commerce company implemented entirely in Ruby on Rails. Please reply with details of your experience, along with your availability and rate. If you don't include these we'll assume you haven't read this carefully and won't be a good fit.

Required Skills
- experience with RoR projects/web development
- experience managing rails stacks on ubuntu - apache, haproxy, nginx, passenger, mysql etc
- Ability to work in a small, geographically-distributed team using collaboration tools (Skype, IM, email, mingle)
- Must be detail-oriented and thorough in designing, coding and testing
- ability to deliver against time deadlines
- Familiarity with subversion
- Workday overlap with Eastern time zone (UTC-5) and/or GMT

Desired Skills/Attributes
- have used monitoring tools such as nagios, monit, god
- used automated deployment tools
- understand load balancing and high availability strategies
